In my role as a sparring partner to CEOs or other senior executives, I often encounter high performers who, not uncommonly (like myself…), are equipped with a certain degree of temperament…

A secure environment is a crucial prerequisite for employees to perform at their best. Therefore, it’s important that you, as a leader, can control your temperament.

You must learn to recognize the signals that indicate you’re starting to get irritated and lose your temper. I usually refer to it as “entering the red zone” 😡

As leaders, we should strive to have “a warm heart and a cool head”. It’s not okay to enter the “red zone”, to flare up and lose control.

Once, I learned to “install a virtual button” on my body. And to press it when I feel like I’m about to flare up… By taking a few deep breaths and rebooting myself, I can continue the discussion in a balanced manner.

Perhaps it’s a finesse for you to install for yourself?
